Wes Smothermon

Drawing on my previous experience as a youth pastor, I enjoy working with children, teenagers, and young adults. As a play therapist, I have worked extensively with children who are struggling with ADHD and trauma. I also enjoy working with couples and families, and individuals who struggle with addiction, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues and PTSD. The challenge of parenting sparks my interest and I enjoy using humor, emotion coaching, and intergenerational systemic family theories to illuminate and strengthen the resources that parents already have to offer. I believe that solutions can be found by viewing obstacles as opportunities for repair.

Because play is our first context for interactions, I believe in the power of non-verbal processing to bring hope and healing to all kinds of situations. My faith allows me to see with compassion and grants me a holistic perspective that encourages my clients toward spiritual AND emotional health.

I am certified in Play Therapy and work with children, adolescents, and adults. I have also been trained in EMDR and work with those who have suffered grief, trauma, or distress. I look forward to meeting with you as you embark on this journey.
